IMPORTANT NOTE: Possible Changes in 2022 due to COVID-19.  ONNY's 2022 Young Artist Competition (YAC) and the NEW Challenge for Young Artists (CYA) MAY take place live via Zoom on Saturday, February 12, 2022 starting at 10:00 a.m. and Noon respectively. As of November 2021, ONNY plans to hold the events live in-person. This information is subject to change based on the latest CDC and NYS Health Department guidelines. If ONNY is forced to cancel the Competition and the Challenge, all application fees will be refunded. Please check this ONNY website frequently for updates. Your understanding as ONNY tries to accommodate the fluid nature of this ongoing situation is appreciated. 

SECOND IMPORTANT NOTE:  Accompaniment WILL BE REQUIRED for the 2022 Competition and Challenge for any instrument or concerto including piano. 

16th Annual James and Katherine Andrews Young Artists Competition

Junior High and High School students from Northern and Central New York as well as the Capital Region are invited to participate in this event at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 12, 2022 in Hosmer Hall, SUNY Potsdam. Participants must perform FROM MEMORY a piece from the approved Repertoire List. All young artists will receive a Certificate of Participation and written feedback from a panel of judges who are professional musicians including ONNY's Music Director, Kenneth Andrews.

First, Second, and Third Place winners will be awarded a cash prize. The Competition winner will have the opportunity to solo with ONNY at a future concert.

Inaugural Vernice N. Church Challenge for Young Artists

Junior High and High School students from Northern and Central New York as well as the Capital Region who are "Puirsuing Artistic Growth" are invited to participate in this event by submitting a video by Friday, January 21, 2022 to be screened by ONNY judges. Select students will be invited to perform live in-person at a recital at Noon on Saturday, February 12, 2022 in Hosmer Hall, SUNY Potsdam. Participants must perform (NOT FROM MEMORY) a piece from the NYSSMA manual at levels 5 and 6. All young artists performing in the recital will receive a Certificate of Participation and written feedback from a panel of judges who are professional musicians including ONNY's Music Director, Kenneth Andrews.
