Sue Bellor

Susan (Sue) J. Bellor earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree and Master of Science Degree at SUNY Potsdam, NY with study at the University of Madrid, Spain. Sue is a retired educator, having taught Spanish in the Massena Central School District and as Coordinator of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. She served International Baccalaureate North America as an Education Consultant and Accreditation Site Visitor. She also taught Methods, Materials and Assessments in Modern Language in the Education Department as Adjunct Instructor at St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY. Sue served both the NYS Education Department as scorer of NYS Certification Exams in Spanish and the United States Department of Education as a Team Panel Reviewer for the “Race to the Top” and the “Advanced Placement” Grant Programs. Sue was awarded both an Honorary Doctorate of Letters and an Honorary Doctorate in Philosophy from Cambridge, England for her contributions to Foreign Language Education through Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and related lifetime achievements in Education and World Understanding.
In addition to her current full-time job as elected Massena Town Supervisor, Sue continues as Rotary Foundation Director for the Massena Rotary Club, and Endowment Chair for District 7040 which spans clubs in northern NY and all clubs in the Ontario province of Canada from Kingston to western Montreal. She was elected to serve as District Governor 2017-2018, then served Rotary International on the Council of Legislation and has been awarded the Service Above Self Award and the Citation for Meritorious Service by the Rotary Foundation. She and her husband endowed a Rotary Foundation fund in their name for the specific area of Basic Education and Literacy globally. She was active in other volunteer and community organizations; the Massena Museum Board as past President; Past President of the St. Lawrence County Chapter of NYS Women Inc., past Chair of Advocacy for Women at the state level; and the Massena Memorial Hospital board. She currently continues as a lector for St. Peter’s Parish; is active on the boards of the local Salvation Army and the Orchestra of Northern NY. Sue is married and has 2 children; one an electrical engineer and power manager for Corning Inc.; and the other an assistant professor of Music Composition at University of Nevada at Las Vegas who earned her PhD at Eastman School of Music, and had acquired a special love for music from private instruction as early as age 3 and through high school with professors at Crane School of Music in violin, piano, French horn, organ and vocal.
